WHAT WE OFFER
|
The Jaycees provides opportunities for leadership development, community involvement, personal development, professional development and networking, and social networking. We develop new skills while creating positive change in our communities and establishing new business and social networks. Every project, every meeting, every experience expands the abilities of Jaycees and presents opportunities and choices. Actions are the results of choosing. Ideas are conceived. Beliefs are strengthened. Opinions are formed. Memories are made. Personal growth is achieved. Chapter projects serve as a vehicle for hands-on learning. “Off-the-job” training while benefiting society is how Jaycee members transform classroom learning into self-improvement. All the skills to plan, promote, and manage a Jaycee project are directly transferable to real-life situations. Through their involvement, members have the opportunity to master the roles of managers, visionaries, coaches, educators, ambassadors and leaders by participating in countless and varied projects and hands-on training workshops that benefit communities worldwide. |
Leadership Development
The Livonia Jaycees builds tomorrow’s leaders today – one member at a time. We learn by doing. Our hands-on training approach gives members the opportunity to run projects and events that enhance the lives of local members as well as Michigan’s communities.
How We Build Leaders. Members learn the skills needed to plan major projects, motivate groups, problem-solve, budget, run meetings, and much more! By participating on committees, chairing events, and serving on the Board of Directors, an individual learns how to delegate, manage and work as a team with other civic-minded people. Chapters encourage members to develop new ideas and undertake new initiatives in order to realize their leadership potential. This experience offers members the opportunity to grow through success and failure in a safe and positive environment.
As a member of an international organization, members have the opportunity to not only develop leadership skills in their own chapters, but to develop them on a larger scale at the state, national, or even international level – working with other young professionals across cultures and countries.
Skills We Hone & Develop. Great leaders need great skills. We’ve listed just a few of the leadership skills that active members develop as Jaycees.

Community Involvement
Livonia Jaycees, like all citizens, have a stake in the betterment of their communities and, as such, are strongly dedicated to promoting and improving the quality of life for everyone within them. Community involvement develops individual members to societal problems and knowledge of community dynamics through actual experience.
We raise thousands of dollars in money and donations specifically targeted to many different organizations and people in our community. In addition, our members perform thousands of hours of volunteer work per year to enhance the resources and facilities available to the public.
These activities fall within the following areas:
Community Service. This area involves projects that are designed to promote or improve the quality of life for people in the community, including projects that deal directly with people, properties, economic development, energy, and the environment.
Community Fundraising. These projects deal with the direct raising of funds for a specific non-Jaycee program. This includes fundraising for local disaster or emergency assistance, health related organizations, foundations, and any organized community charities.
Government and Civic Involvement. These projects deal with all areas of involvement with the local, state and national governmental process. Projects include town forums, debates, “Get Out The Vote”, advocacy issues, criminal justice projects, etc. , as well as providing assistance to other civic organizations in the community.
Children and Youth. This area includes promotion and coordination of projects related to children and youth. As the future of our community lies in the hands of today’s young people, many projects are conducted to ensure that young people are well prepared to take the community leadership roles in the years to come. Examples include youth sporting events, fingerprinting, building a playground, reading and other educational programs, etc.
Personal Development
To be a leader, to be connected to your community, to be a successful networker all require making the most of who you are. Opportunities for individual development arise whenever the Jaycees host an event that allows its members to improve or grow in a new way. With this in mind, the Livonia Jaycees offers a wide range of social events and leadership training that encourage members to explore and build on untapped skills and interests.
Speakers. We offer programs and workshops on leadership, project management, financial management, time and stress management, public speaking, communications skills, and more.

Social Networking and Activities
The Junior Chamber is the cure for the common social life. Events at all levels – from chapter to international – allows Jaycees many opportunities to build a strong network ready to have fun!
Great Friends. The greatest friendships develop in our organization. Whether we meet for drinks and dinner; go camping and hiking; catch a movie or a ballgame; or check out the latest exhibit, this is a good group of people to do it with. From picnicking to black-tie dinners, there is something for everyone.
Work Hard. Play Harder. While Jaycees work hard planning big and small events throughout the year, we also know how to have fun. With every project, there is always a social element. Meetings are often held at local restaurants, and committee members often look forward to a post-gathering to celebrate the success of their event. And, sometimes we just like to throw a party or get out of the house for some amusement.
Activities & Events. Jaycees look forward to the following ongoing social events, among others:
